Scanning Services

Here are some of the reasons why you should digitize your film:

  • Film fades over time, digital files do not. Preservation is the number one reason people digitize.
  • To view and share your images on the web.
  • To revive faded colours. Colours can be restored once an image is digitized.
  • Film attracts dust & airborne particles. These can be permanently removed during scanning.
  • Film can appear very "grainy," but this can be smoothed out when digitized.
  • To preserve and archive your family history for later generations. Some images are irreplaceable.
  • Digital images can be copied over and over at a very low cost, film duplication is expensive.
  • You are more likely to view your images on your computer or TV than set up the slide projector.
  • To give your collection of images as a gift.
  • Images can be sorted and labeled very easily on your computer.
  • You can email digital pictures to people.
  • You can make several copies, one for storing in another location such as a safety deposit box.
  • Save space! DVD's and CD's are much smaller than carousels of slides or VHS tapes.
  • Prints can be made from digital files and they will probably look better than the originals!
  • Digitize for Powerpoint presentations.

All of our scans are done individually by hand to ensure the highest level of quality possible. All materials are evaluated pre and post scan and adjustments are made, if needed. Your originals are always handled professionally and with care, we know they are priceless to you.

All files are typically saved as TIFF or JPEG files and burned to CD-R or DVD-R. Custom file spec is always an option

Digital Photo Restoration

  • Photo Restoration: Bring your faded, blurred and damaged photos back to life. Old photographs can become damaged in many ways. Some simply from age, others from improper storage, becoming torn, folded, stained, or mildewed. These and other types of damage can be corrected.
  • Change a colour photo to a tinted tone, creating a nostalgic effect.
  • Photo Montage: combine separate photographs to create a brand new picture, remove any unwanted figures and objects from your image. Make an exclusive, unique present to your relatives and friends!
  • Artistic Treatment: Add textured surface effects. Let your photo look new, gain style and mood. Transform your favorite portrait into a Pop Art masterpiece!
  • Framing: Place your image in a digital frame or modify the edge effect.
  • "Cosmetic Surgery": Improve the appearance: remove acne, wrinkles, make a figure slimmer. Reconstruct a brick wall in a damaged photo. Make your portrait look like a glamour shot in fashion magazine!
  • Colouring: Return colours to faded photos or colourize a black and white image.
  • New Background: Replace an old background with a new one. Add or remove people and distracting objects. This technique can be used to create that picture that you always wished you had taken!

Archiving

CD Rom and DVD archiving of your family photos and documents is important to ensure they can be passed on to future generations. Archiving is also great for weddings, insurance documentation, and retirements.

A custom DVD slideshow is the perfect way to show off your digital images. Our slideshows are authored using professional digital video programs and can be customized exactly to your specifications. Add a soundtrack or voice over.

Slideshows are great for family events, weddings, birthdays and other events!

Coaching and Consultation

Digital Image Coaching: To use and process digital images effectively you need to understand some of the basics about them. Resolution, colour depth, and file format are three of the critical elements when using digital images. We start by covering the basic terminology and help you apply that to using your scanners and digital cameras.

Colour Calibration: Without a doubt, the most frustrating aspect of digital photography has to be that of matching the screen image to the final print. Our simple and affordable Colour Profiling Service will help ensure that you get the colours you want from your printer, and on your preferred paper!
